Of Movement and Material

Philipp Weber: Of Movement and Material

Of Movement and Material addresses the way in which the human body and an amorphous substance like glass influence each other, the elements created in a dance between maker and material.

The forms show the human body in rhythmic interplay with restrictive tools and glass, attaining a sense of the human by capturing the emotional nature of the gesture used for their creation.
The physical movement of the body guides the bare matter into being through an act of kinetic translation, enlivening the glass into expressive volumes.
In this way, the lights speak across the divide between a static form and movement. It centers itself around a moment of unity between the body and the material, at the moment when both collide and release from each other.

The project celebrates the launching of the first series of lights for the newly formed brand ANALOG, produced in Berlin’s first and only glass blowing studio. The Designer joins his concept for ‚Of Movement and Material‘ with the philosophy of ANALOG, which seeks to re-emphasise the relevance of the human quality within products.

For Milan Design Week 2019 Philipp Weber x ANALOG presented this debut series entitled at Alcova Sassetti. The installation reflected the concept of movement as the glass elements were illuminated in an interplay between video projections and the actual LED lights.
